The work

Training

The Bulldogs play competitive summer and fall schedules while allowing players to focus on their school teams during the spring. We believe that practice, film study, athletic development, strength training and proper throwing preparation are every bit as important to long-term development as playing games.

Our outdoor practices are held at NYIT, John Maccarone Memorial Stadium in Glen Cove, and the Salisbury Park Drive Ballfields in East Meadow. During the winter and in inclement weather, the team trains at two indoor facilities in Glen Cove: Cove Sports and Bulldog Academy.

Players have access to HitTrax, Rapsodo and TrackMan technology to measure performance, monitor progress and establish objective development goals. Bulldog Academy also includes a full gym equipped with a Proteus training system. When facilities are not being used for scheduled team activities, players may use the batting cages, throwing lanes and gym for additional individual work.

A Typical Year for Our 14U Select Team

Winter Training — November through early March

Winter is our most development-focused period of the year, with an emphasis on strength, athleticism, throwing progression, defensive work and hitting.

  • 2 Team Hit & Lift sessions per week — 2 hours each
  • 1 Speed & Agility session — 1 hour
  • 1 Arm Care / Throwing session — 90 minutes, progressing into bullpens and live at-bats
  • 1 Defensive Training day — 90-minute positional sessions for infielders, outfielders and catchers
  • Mid-February Spring Training trip to Florida — an opportunity to practice and compete outdoors in warm weather before the school season begins

Spring — School Baseball Season

During the spring, our priority shifts to allowing players to focus on their school baseball commitments while continuing to train and develop.

  • 1 Hit & Lift session per week — 2 hours
  • 1 Optional hitting session — 90 minutes

In past seasons, the Bulldogs have played a limited number of spring tournaments. As more of our players move into JV and varsity school baseball, we expect to play few, if any, Bulldogs games during the spring.

Players who want additional game opportunities may also have opportunities to play with affiliated Northeast Aces teams when schedules allow.

Summer — Primary Competitive Season

The summer combines regular training with a competitive schedule that includes both 14U competition and games based on graduation year, including 2030 and 2031 events.

  • 2 Outdoor team practices at NYIT — 2 hours each
  • 1–2 Hit & Lift sessions — 2 hours
  • 1 Open Hit session — 90 minutes
  • 1 Optional Arm Care / Throwing session, with bullpen work also available during outdoor practices
  • Approximately 8 tournaments
  • 10–15 game league schedule

Players seeking additional game opportunities may also play with affiliated Northeast Aces teams when those games do not conflict with Bulldogs practices or games.

Fall

The fall schedule is intentionally lighter to accommodate players participating in school and other sports while still providing meaningful baseball development and competition.

  • 1 Outdoor team practice — 2 hours
  • 1 Hit & Lift session — 2 hours
  • 1 Additional hitting session — 90 minutes
  • 5–6 tournaments
  • 5-game league schedule, generally playing up one age level — for example, competing at 15U during the players' 14U season

Players who are not participating in another fall sport and want additional game opportunities may also play with our affiliated Northeast Aces teams.

Our goal is to balance meaningful game competition with enough practice and training time for players to actually improve.
